POSSESSIVE CASE

💵’s 😈

The use of “‘s” to indicate possession in English grammar is a part of the broader topic of possessive forms or possessive constructions. In English.

  • Examples:
  • John’s car (The car belongs to John.)
  • Mary’s book (The book belongs to Mary.)
  • The cat’s tail (The tail belongs to the cat.)

This form is commonly used for singular nouns and for plural nouns not ending in “s.”

⏺️ Possessive Pronouns: Instead of using “‘s,” you can also use possessive pronouns to indicate possession. These pronouns replace the noun and show who or what possesses it.

  • Examples:
  • His car (His car = John’s car)
  • Her book (Her book = Mary’s book)
  • Its tail (Its tail = The cat’s tail)

The possessive pronouns in English are “my,” “your,” “his,” “her,” “its,” “our,” and “their.” They replace both singular and plural nouns and do not require the use of “‘s.”

EXAMPLES:

Jesus’ book is the bible.
Carlos’ car is black.

Debora’s bike is blue.
Flavia’s bike is green.

Debora’s and Flavia’s bikes are good.

[Debora and Flavia]’s bike are good.

[Fernanda and Debora]’s mother is Leomar.

Fernda’s and Debora’s phone are bad.
